Our Mission and Goals

The Mission of Men United Rhode Island

Men United Rhode Island, formed as a not-for-profit organization to serve as a resource and referral agency for men of all ages to meet their individual, family and community needs, focuses on issues impacting men's health, employment, educational and family issues.

We serve as a contact and referral agency for men in distress and/or at-risk of injury or acting in a self-destructive manner. In this way, Men United Rhode Island, Inc. is able to contribute to and enhance the well-being of individuals, contribute to public safety and promote the development of healthier and safer communities.

Our Specific Goals

• Resource and Referral
  Provide an extensive resource and referral list for men who seeking assistance in several areas including psychotherapists, lawyers, mediator, life coaches, education, employment, emergency services, housing agencies, and support groups.

• Support Programs
  There will have work and meeting space for staff using a networked computer system to share and manager the large amount of data and written materials handled by the organization.
  
  Provide support groups for men to discuss their lives in a safe, confidential environment, offer groups facilitated by trained volunteers. By receiving a sympathetic hearing of their own concerns but also know that violence, abuse, and blaming are not acceptable, men will be more effectively supported;
  
  Offer father's programs to improve men skills working as fathers by designing workshop that encourage families to explore ways to share parenting responsibilities and challenge men to become more involved fatherhood;
  
  Offering specific resources for questioning men, and men who have experienced childhood abuse, or sexual assault or domestic violence as adults.

• Training Programs
  There will be several service providers including full and part-time staff and consultants that teach these skills. They are typically religious based organizations or community based organizations.
  
  Offer classes, workshops, consultations and training for not only individual but also government departments, social agencies, academic institution, businesses and corporations, and community organizations across Rhode Island. Programs will focus on our target segment such as mood management classes, communication workshops, men violence prevention services. For instance, mood management class will be designed for men who have difficult managing anger, stress in various facets of their life. Communication workshops will assist individuals and couples to improve relationships. Training and presentations on related topics are also offered.

• Public Activities
  Organize mens conference, new paper signature ad campaigns;
  
  Offer special events and meetings such as domestic violence and mood management groups, partner support groups, mens support groups in which men can share their feeling, experience and help others.
